Incident Summary:Allegation that Sporting approached the coach of a 2013 OV Toros player to get the player to guest play at Surf Cup. The Sporting coach emailed the OV Toros coach prior to contacting the OV Toros DOC for permission. The definition of recruiting outside of the tryout window set forth in the Handbook requires DOC permission before approaching the player. Approaching the coach does not comply with the NorCal rule. The player subsequently left OV Toros for Sporting after guest playing for them at Surf Cup.
After the PAD Committee found a violation of the Recruiting rules, Santa Clara Sporting appealed the decision of the PAD Committee to the NorCal Board.
Comments:Coach Chris Fitzpatrick violated the NorCal rule concerning recruiting by approaching the OV Toros coach prior to approaching the OV Toros DOC. Chris Fitzpatrick is suspended from coaching any games in any NorCal competition until October 15, 2022. This decision was subsequently appealed by Santa Clara Sporting to the NorCal Board. The Board overruled the decision of the PAD Committee and found no violation occurred. The suspension is lifted.
